Following the beginning trend of somewhat sidestepping the villain process, the eighth out of 10th installment in the Fast & Furious saga features a possibly traitorous Dominic Toretto (a la Captain America) working against his own team. Charlize Theron’s new big bad plays passenger (or backseat driver?) to the main protagonist in this first Paul Walker-less sequel. The true impact of these furious characters will remain to be seen until the film’s release on April 14th. And even then the truer impact might not be realized until films 9 & 10 finale release on 4.19.19 and 4.2.21. My hope is that they reach the series high watermark of the sixth installment.
As one YouTube user pointed out, the main hero’s betrayal is reminiscent of the new Transformers film (which also may star [earn that paycheck] Tyrese Gibson included at the bottom), and if we’re expanding to tone to simply ‘A Hero Falls’ then we can include Cars 3. How about that? Well here’s hoping 2017 is more than middling for movies like this year was. Then again we didn’t have ‘The Fate of the Furious’ on our hands so there’s reason to suspect so.
