Jennifer Aniston & Justin Theroux Have Separated

“In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation. This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year. We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship, Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly. Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another.”

Joint statement issued to the Associated Press via publicist, 6:30 p.m. E.S.T. February 15th, 2018

One of the most high profile couples in Hollywood have decided to separate, with sources such as TMZ speculating that a divorce is looming. She, who just turned 49 over the weekend was seen celebratin without him in Malibu, California. He is 46. They have a Bel-Air estate, [which for research purposes I learned is 25 miles and over an hours drive away from Malibu] and no kids together. They met on set of the movie Wanderlust while filming in 2011 were engaged in 2012. They have been married for two and a half years.

Most people are familiar with Jennifer Aniston after the monumental success of Friends (1994-2004). She is one of the few bankable actors in Hollywood whose movies always turn a profit finding an audience and makes notable successful choices (We’re The Millers, Office Christmas Party, Horrible Bosses series) no matter how critically unfavourable those movies may actually be (Just Go With It, The Bounty Hunter).

Justin Theroux by comparison is much less notable (though I like him more). His biggest role to date was on the much ignored HBO show The Leftovers (one of my favourite shows of last year) which got cancelled due to low ratings but as policy at HBO was able to conclude its story on its own terms. He also had a very small role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi as the tuxedo-clad code-breaker on the Casablanca style planet Canto Bright that heroes Finn and Rose were looking for before they settled on Benicio del Toro’s character. His next movie is the Duncan Jones (Source Code) directed sci-fi thriller Mute co-starring Paul Rudd and Alexander Skarsgard which drops on Netflix on February 23rd. He is also a writer partly responsible for the screenplays of Zoolander 2, Rock of Ages, Iron Man 2, & Tropic Thunder.

Coupled with the high profile divorce of Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie (Aniston’s first husband from 2000-2005) I’m sure many people are already hoping that Hollywood’s two biggest tabloid targets get back together. They should first note that Brad Pitt left Aniston for Jolie while he was working on Mr. & Mrs. Smith so I wouldn’t expect her to want to go back to that guy. Artistically, at least we could see her collaborate with Jason Bateman for the 6th time. So that’s something.

This the fourth time I’ve profiled a divorce: Brangelina, Bennifer II, and  Burton Bonham-Carter, I guess this is becoming a feature. Which major Hollywood couple are you still holding out hope for the sanctity of marriage?
